NAFDAC urges corps members to report counterfeit medicine manufacturers

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control has urged corps members to report any suspicious activities of counterfeit medicine manufacturers and other substandard regulated products to the agency.

Acting Director-General of NAFDAC, Mrs. Yetunde Oni, gave the advice on Friday while delivering a lecture to the Batch A Stream II corps members at the temporary orientation camp in Akamkpa local government area of the state.

Oni, who was represented by an official of the agency from Calabar office, Mrs. Eme Ekpoh, urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the agency by sustaining public enlightenment and the fight against adulterated products.

She said, “As corps members, I will encourage you to take the advocacy and fight against counterfeit drugs and adulterated products to your places of primary assignment across the state.

“I urge you to report any suspicious activities and factories where counterfeit medicine, unwholesome food and substandard regulated products are manufactured or stored.

“Report anybody using potassium bromate as bread enhancer to the nearest NAFDAC office. Potassium bromate causes cancer, kidney failure, and loss of hearing and breakdown of vitamins.”

The director-general donated 100 plastic chairs to the scheme in support of their activities in the state.

She lauded the activities of corps members who belong to NAFDAC Community Development Service group for their efforts in sensitising the people on the activities of NAFDAC.

Receiving the chairs, NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs. Ambekemo Eniola, thanked the NAFDAC Boss for her kind gesture to the scheme in the state.

Eniola said that the NYSC scheme had enjoyed a cordial working relationship with NAFDAC in the state in the area of posting of corps members and capacity building.

The state Coordinator said that 1,873 corps members were currently undergoing different forms of training ranging from drills, entrepreneur lectures, skill acquisition programmes and others.
