The Governor of Delta, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, on Wednesday assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would deliver a non-elective convention that members would be proud of on Saturday.
Okowa, who is the Chairman of the Non-Elective Convention Committee of the party, gave the assurance at the committee’s meeting in Abuja.
The committee and two other standing ones – Disciplinary and Reconciliation – were inaugurated on Tuesday by the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi.
Okowa said that though the period for preparing for the event was short, the committee would face the challenge and deliver a successful convention.
“We are confident because we are an organised party, and we will definitely deliver a convention that we will be proud of as a party. “I am trusting in the ability of our leaders, the chairmen and the secretaries of our sub-committees that we will do a good work.
“And, because we are an organised party, before today, some level of work has been done about the convention by the National Working Committee. “I must appreciate them for what they have done before today,” he said.
The chairman expressed confidence that members of the committee were committed and would do their best to deliver. “We hope that by Saturday we will have a very good story to tell the public.
“The PDP has come alive; PDP will stay alive and on Saturday, it will send a strong message that will make Nigeria realise that we are very prepared to take over power in 2019.
“Our success will be that strong message that we will send out to the public,” he said.
Okowa announced that the convention would hold at the Eagle Square in Abuja, adding that the presence of the party’s chieftain at the inauguration of the committees on Tuesday was an indication that PDP was active.
Meanwhile, briefing newsmen at the end of the committee’s meeting, Okowa said that sub-committees already constituted, were expected to present their programmes of action later on Wednesday.
