Why Nigerian Army created 6 division – Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has explained that the Nigerian Army created the 6 Division, with headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to provide maximum security for the core states of the region.

This is as Rivers State Governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike called on all Nigerians to support the Nigerian Armed Forces to fight crime, because insecurity affects everybody, irrespective of political affiliation.

Buratai, who spoke on Thursday night, during a state banquet in his honour at Government House, Port Harcourt, declared that the new division has come to stay.

The Chief of Army Staff lauded the Rivers State government for appreciating the setting up of the 6 Division through the special banquet.

He said, “Security is a collective responsibility. We must work together to achieve the best results. Strong inter-agency cooperation is vital to improving security.”

In his speech at the banquet, Rivers State Governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike stated that governance suffers when there is no peace in the society.

Wike said, “Everybody must join hands to fight crime and insecurity. This is because insecurity has no political affiliation.

“When there is no peace, there will be no governance. When there is insecurity, the revenue of the state will be negatively affected and it will be difficult to support the security agencies with logistics and finance”.

The governor stated that the security agencies are doing their best in Rivers State as they have made the state one of the safest places to live and do business.

He said Nigerians must learn how to commend security agencies for their service to the country, pointing out that there is nowhere in the world where you don’t have security challenges.

Wike said, “I want to commend the Chief of Army Staff for achieving the great feat of bringing the Boko Haram insurgency to the barest minimum.”
