Industrial unrest looms in varsities over sack of SSANU staff

SENIOR Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU has threatened to withdraw their services in the Universities if the Governing Council of University of Abuja did not reverse the termination of the two officials of the union.

Already SSANU has urged the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu to prevail on the Governing Council of University of Abuja to immediately recall the affected officials of the union.

SSANU on Friday at its National Executive Council meeting at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, presided by its National President, Comrade Samson Ugwoke said that it will be left with no other option than to declare industrial action if the Governing Council of the university continued to be adamant on the recall of its members.

SSANU said, “The process leading to their suspension is unlawful, unprocedursl and illegal. We seriously urge the minister of Education to prevail on the new Governing Council of University of Abuja to without further delay recall our members to avoid industrial unrest.”

Meanwhile, NEC in session has ratified the indefinite suspension of the Registrar of the University of Abuja and 23 other members of the union for alleged anti-union activities.
