Don’t attack oil facilities again, Delta dep gov tells militants

The Acting Governor of Delta State, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, has advised members of the new militant group, New Delta Avengers, to embrace peace and dialogue in the interest of the people of the state stressing that any attack on oil and gas facilities would plunge the state into a serious economic mess.

Otuaro stated this in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant, Communication and Press, Mr Bulou Kosin, in a reaction to the militant group’s withdrawal of its planned attacks on oil and gas facilities in the state in Warri.

The militants, however, last week while citing the intervention of Chief Edwin Clark withdrew their ultimatum to the state government and called for the speedy funding and development of oil communities in the state who are suffering from the activities of oil explorations.

Otuaro who also chairs the state’s Advocacy Committee Against Oil Facility Vandalism invited members of the militant group to join the peace and developmental efforts being made by the state government in ensuring development for host communities.

He said, “As a state government, we have insisted over time that we will not hide under a national economic recession to abandon our development agenda for the entire state. We will continue to do our best and I insist that the results of our commitment to the development of oil bearing communities will soon find expression in commissioning of approved projects in the area.
